The Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has kept the head of the Khmelnytsky Regional Medical and Social Expertise Center (MSEC) Tatyana Krupa in custody. However, the amount of her bail has been significantly reduced, reports "Suspilne".
Krupa's lawyer claimed that the Pechersk District Court's decision to arrest the official was made in violation of the law. According to her, the decision should have been made by the HACC, not the Pechersk court.
The defense also contested the bail of 500 million hryvnias, arguing that the Criminal Procedure Code prohibits setting a bail amount exceeding 80 subsistence minimums, which is equivalent to 250 thousand hryvnias.
Moreover, the lawyer urged the court to consider the suspect's health condition and release her on recognizance.
Ultimately, the judge kept Tatyana Krupa in custody but significantly reduced the bail amount from 500 to 300 million hryvnias, according to "Suspilne".
The Case of Tatyana Krupa
As reported by UNIAN, a scandal erupted in early October surrounding the head of the Khmelnytsky MSEC, Tatyana Krupa. She and her son were suspected of illegal enrichment, leading to searches during which nearly 6 million US dollars in various currencies was found in cash. A number of forged medical documents and lists of "draft evaders" with names and fictitious diagnoses were also discovered.
However, two weeks later, the scandal escalated when it became clear that dozens of prosecutors in the Khmelnytsky region had obtained disability status. Immediate suspicions arose that these disabilities could be fake, and that Tatyana Krupa might have played a role in facilitating their issuance.
In light of this scandal, the government, at the president's request, initiated a large-scale reform of the MSEC system.
