Thus, the political party "UDAR of Vitali Klitschko" responded to the statement made by the acting mayor of Chernihiv, Oleksandr Lomako, who submitted his resignation to free the city from "siege." Lomako stated that the city's operations had been obstructed by the military administration under the direction of the central authorities. The UDAR party condemned the pressure from the central authority on the local government of Chernihiv.
"The political party 'UDAR of Vitali Klitschko' condemns the pressure from the central authority on the local government of Chernihiv. We draw the attention of the ambassadors of the G7 countries and the European Union, as well as Ukraine's international partners, to the events in Chernihiv. We demand that the central authority immediately cease interference in the work of local self-government bodies, focus on combating the external enemy, and not open an internal front," the party's statement reads.
They noted that Lomako submitted his resignation after the city council was, by court order and under directives from above, stripped of its ability to form Chernihiv's budget.
"Such an order was given solely because the acting mayor is a local leader of the UDAR team, elected by the people of Chernihiv. After this, the city was effectively taken hostage by several appointed officials: public transport was halted, children's meals were canceled, hospital funding was blocked, and aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine was obstructed. Therefore, Oleksandr Lomako made a courageous and responsible decision to allow the city to live and develop. His action exemplifies dedication to the community's interests," emphasized the political force.
The UDAR party also highlighted the importance of preserving democracy in Ukraine.
"The assault on democracy in Ukraine is already being viewed negatively by the G7 countries and European parliamentarians. During these days, the entire civilized world is watching the events that will unfold regarding the fate of the country. Any careless step that demonstrates disregard for democracy could cost the country its victory. The state's resources should be spent on bringing victory closer, not on rolling back democracy. Especially since we all need strength now more than ever," the party declared.
