According to him, projects that align with Washington's interests abroad will continue to operate.
"This is not about halting foreign aid. It’s about restructuring it in a way that serves the national interests of the United States. And in fact, since I'm here today, we've already gained insight into some of these programs that contribute to certain objectives," Rubio stated.
He pointed out that the State Department has already rescinded the order to stop funding for several programs, although he did not specify which ones. At USAID, he mentioned, there has been a lack of cooperation, and they even "attempted to process payments in violation," demonstrating "direct disobedience" to the State Department.
"And now we have to act in the opposite direction. This is not the path I wanted. Not how we initially intended, but rather how we will have to proceed now," the Secretary of State concluded.
