The police have apprehended the driver of a BMW who caused a massive accident, resulting in fatalities.
According to data from the National Police, the 23-year-old BMW driver from the Lviv region crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding with a DAF truck, which then lost control and crashed into a Mercedes Sprinter minibus. The driver of the car abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
"Seven passengers of the minibus died at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident, while three others were injured - the 45-year-old truck driver, the 39-year-old Mercedes Sprinter driver, and his 23-year-old passenger," the National Police detailed.
The BMW driver was detained by the police under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Preliminary investigations indicate that he was under the influence of alcohol, and an examination has been ordered. A pre-trial investigation is ongoing as part of the initiated criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code. The question of reclassifying the crime is being considered.
