In Lviv, a tram driver ran over a two-year-old boy and his grandmother while they were crossing the tram tracks at a pedestrian crossing. This was reported by the police of the Lviv region.

According to law enforcement, the driver is a 50-year-old resident of Lviv who was operating the tram under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

As a result of the incident, the 44-year-old grandmother sustained injuries and is currently in intensive care, while her grandson was not physically harmed.

The tram driver has been detained. The court will soon decide on a preventive measure.

Police investigators have initiated a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 286-1 (Violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles by persons in a state of intoxication) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The driver faces up to three years in prison and a driving ban for a period of three to five years.
