"It has been established that, at least from February to July 2024, the brigade commander was aware of numerous instances of torture and other inhumane treatment of soldiers by an officer under his command, yet he did not respond to this nor initiate proceedings to hold the officer accountable," the OGP statement reads. "According to available information, the senior lieutenant who beat and tortured subordinate servicemen is the son of the chief of staff of the mentioned military unit and is a close associate of the brigade commander."
It is noted that the brigade commander has been brought to Kyiv for a preventive measure (a court hearing is scheduled for December 30).
Searches were conducted at his residence, the OGP emphasized.
The State Bureau of Investigations clarified that the commander of the 211th brigade has been notified of suspicion regarding the inaction of military authority committed under martial law or in combat conditions (part 4 of article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The penalty for this article provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years.
