Uzbekistan will implement a mixed majoritarian-proportional electoral system for the first time, announced Saidov, the First Deputy Speaker of the Majlis.

На выборах в Узбекистане впервые будет использована мажоритарно-пропорциональная система, сообщил первый заместитель спикера Мажлиса Саидов.

Sayidov noted that the parliamentary elections will take place based on a new electoral system that combines majoritarian and proportional approaches for the first time.

"75 deputies will be elected directly through a majoritarian system, where voters cast their votes for specific candidates, while the remaining 75 will be elected through a proportional system by voting for political parties. Five political parties must receive at least 7% of the votes to be elected," he explained.

This approach, according to the politician, will allow voters not only to support a party but also to elect specific representatives. Significant attention is also given to the digitization of the electoral process. The activities of electoral commissions, including their interactions with parties, candidates, and voters, will be fully conducted through the E-saylov information system.

"This system provides statistical information about voters and polling stations, information about candidates for deputies in all elections, and also allows users to learn about candidates and their biographies through interactive maps. This minimizes bureaucracy, unnecessary time expenditure, and excessive paperwork in electoral procedures," noted the deputy speaker.

Another innovation he mentioned is the changes in vote counting. Now, to elect a deputy, it will be sufficient to obtain a relative majority of votes.

"A candidate is considered elected if they receive more votes than other candidates in the district, which will eliminate the need for a runoff election," Sayidov pointed out.

One of the important changes he considers is the increase in the proportion of women among candidates. According to the new rules, political parties must nominate at least 40% women among their candidates.

"We are confident that this will promote greater participation of women in the political life of the country," added the parliamentary representative.

In the elections, 150 deputies of the Legislative Chamber will be elected, as well as deputies of local councils.
