"We officially deny the insinuations from unnamed sources in the publication Bild regarding supposed plans of Ukraine to develop weapons of mass destruction," commented the spokesperson of the ministry, Georgiy Tikhiy.
He emphasized that Ukraine "has been and remains" a committed participant in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which it joined in 1994, renouncing the world's third-largest military nuclear capability.
"In Ukraine, we are convinced that the NPT remains a cornerstone of the global architecture of international security. Despite the ongoing Russian aggression, Ukraine continues to adhere to the provisions of the NPT and remains a responsible participant in the international nuclear non-proliferation regime," Tikhiy stated.
According to him, unlike the Russian Federation, Ukraine fulfills its commitments and "expects other responsible international actors to do the same."
"We call for the unification of the global community's efforts to implement the peace formula, particularly its first point – 'Radiological and nuclear safety,'" the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry concluded.
