More than 20 candidates vied for the position. Representatives from the embassies of the USA, UK, and Germany were involved in the interviews with the top three candidates, according to the announcement.
Appointed in early September as the Minister for Strategic Industries, Smetanin believes that Gulyak's main tasks include increasing arms production and completing the reform of Ukraine's defense industry by establishing an "effective anti-corruption infrastructure," the press service reports.
