"We can accomplish a lot, with American allies or without them. When it comes to Ukraine, I am a strong advocate for a joint approach with the USA," said Pavel. "However, if we find that their vision for resolving the war in Ukraine differs from ours and leaves us sidelined, we must act very decisively."
According to the Czech president, the EU should first clarify its own stance – "what the red lines are."
All of this needs to be discussed with Ukraine, and when its position is aligned with the EU, then it must be "coordinated with American allies," Pavel added.
He stated that if the EU is to take more responsibility for Ukraine, as is being discussed in Washington, then the EU must be at the negotiating table, or else there will be "the ex-Munich spirit, of which Czechoslovakia is well aware."
"I mean the agreement about a country without a country. This time it’s about Ukraine, but also about Europe," Pavel noted.
