"We are currently in a situation that I would describe as the beginning of the beginning. We have seen statements from various U.S. officials. I believe this indicates that both strategy and tactics are being prepared. At this stage, it is crucial to ensure that Ukraine has everything it needs to survive, continue the fight, and remain strong. If Ukraine is strong, and if it continues to resist, you cannot impose anything," said Rinkēvičs. "And you cannot simply sit down at the negotiating table without Ukraine, conduct negotiations, and think that someone will accept the terms that have been agreed upon. The same applies to Europe."
The President of Latvia noted that he "truly believes that the U.S. wants to end the war and achieve lasting peace."
"The person I do not trust is [illegitimate Russian President Vladimir] Putin. And here, I think, may lie our greatest disappointment. A big question is whether we are talking about a ceasefire or a permanent, durable peace? I currently do not believe that Russia is interested in a peace agreement," emphasized Rinkēvičs.
