The Pechersk District Court of Kiev has placed former commander of the 415th Separate Rifle Battalion of the 23rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, Colonel Ilya Lapin, under arrest for two months. This information was reported by the Telegram channel "Graty".
The statement indicates that Lapin will remain in custody until March 20 of this year.
The State Bureau of Investigation suspects the colonel of negligence in military service.
It is noted that the court selected the preventive measure for Colonel Lapin in a closed session. After the hearing, the military official told "Graty" that he does not admit guilt and will appeal the court's decision.
Detention of commanders who failed the defense of Kharkiv region in 2024
As reported by UNIAN, on January 20, the State Bureau of Investigation announced the detention of former commanders - two generals and a colonel, whose negligence allowed the enemy to seize part of the Kharkiv region in May 2024.
Sources from UNIAN in law enforcement agencies informed that the individuals involved include Brigadier General Yuri Halushkin, Lieutenant General Arthur Gorbenko, and Colonel Ilya Lapin.
The detainees have been notified of suspicion for negligence by a military official in service, committed under conditions of martial law, leading to serious consequences (Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The former commander of the 415th Separate Rifle Battalion will also face additional charges of voluntary abandonment of the battlefield (Article 429 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanctions for these articles provide for a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
