U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan held a meeting with the head of the Ukrainian President's Office, Andriy Yermak, which lasted over an hour. During the meeting, he promised to provide Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of additional artillery shells, thousands of missiles, and hundreds of armored vehicles by mid-January. The U.S. is also offering to train Ukrainian soldiers at facilities outside of Ukrainian territory.
Simultaneously, an agreement is nearly reached to provide $20 billion in the form of loans, which will be backed by profits from immobilized Russian sovereign assets.
Additionally, the U.S. will impose new sanctions in the coming weeks aimed at complicating Russia's ability to continue military operations and strengthening Ukraine's position at the negotiating table, which could lay the groundwork for a future settlement.
The publication notes that this step by the White House to assist Kyiv comes just over a month before the inauguration of the elected U.S. President Donald Trump, after which the States may propose an entirely new strategy for a ceasefire.
