Scholz is once again a candidate for chancellor, with the Ukrainian ambassador attending his party's congress.

The candidacy of Scholz was supported by an overwhelming majority of delegates, with approximately 600 in attendance.

The head of the SPD, Lars Klingbeil, spoke in support of Scholz.

"As Chancellor during Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine, [Scholz] ensured job security through gas and electricity price controls, assisting companies amid the energy crisis," he stated.

The acting Chancellor also addressed the congress. He remarked, "Putin's Russia has launched a brutal invasion of Ukraine," and noted that some parties in Germany "are telling one false story from the Kremlin after another."

"Deutsche Welle" highlighted that Scholz reiterated his opposition to supplying long-range German missiles to Ukraine, mentioning that Russia possesses nuclear weapons.

Journalists noted that the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Oleksiy Makeiev, attended the congress, and his presence was announced from the stage.

According to opinion polls, the SPD party ranks third (with 15% support) after the conservative CDU/CSU bloc and the right-wing populist "Alternative for Germany," as emphasized by "Deutsche Welle."
