"Today, Chancellor Scholz visited Ukraine. We had a lengthy conversation: one of the longest bilateral meetings, in a special format – over two and a half hours. We discussed all the topics that are important for our countries. The main focus is air defense and strengthening our sky protection. Germany is already a leader in this area and, in general, in support across Europe," said Zelensky.
He emphasized that Germany is "number one on the continent in terms of assistance to Ukraine: around €30 billion from Germany."
"Defensive support, as well as assistance for our resilience. I want to personally thank the Chancellor and all of Germany – the entire German people, who are so principled with us. It is important for us in Ukraine that the level of German support does not decrease further. This will be the most significant and timely signal to all our other partners. And in the meeting with the Chancellor, we agreed that Germany will continue to stand with Ukraine in the ways that are necessary, regardless of what happens in global politics – whatever changes in sentiment may occur," declared Zelensky.
The President of Ukraine noted that a military support package from Germany amounting to €650 million is expected to arrive in Ukraine in December.
"We discussed today with the Chancellor the contacts with our partners in Europe for the upcoming weeks – the negotiation work for this month. I want to thank you personally, Olaf, and thank your country, thank you, Germany," said Zelensky.
Scholz arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit on December 2 and stated that Germany will remain "the strongest supporter of Ukraine in Europe."
