"During the interrogation, he explained that he had been recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services. At their request, he arrived in Moscow and received a homemade explosive device," the statement reads.
The detained individual allegedly revealed that he attached the explosives to a scooter near the general's house and installed a camera in a rented car to broadcast the explosion to his "clients" in Dnipro. The bomb was detonated remotely.
The "executor" was promised $100,000 for the elimination of the high-ranking occupier and relocation to one of the European countries, according to the Investigative Committee of Russia.
The release named Kirillov's assistant – Igor Polikarpov. Earlier, media reports suggested that the general's driver also perished in the incident.
