The court has chosen a preventive measure of 60 days of detention without the right to post bail for the 19-year-old BMW driver suspected of causing a fatal accident in Dnipro on December 1. This information was reported by the police of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
"The suspect in the fatal accident on Naberezhna Zavodska Street in Dnipro has been arrested. The court granted the investigator's request and imposed a preventive measure of 60 days of detention without the right to post bail on the BMW driver," the statement reads.
According to information from Suspilne, the suspect will remain in custody until January 30, 2025. He denies his guilt and refuses to comment on whether he was driving at the time of the accident. It has also been revealed that the young man has a prior criminal record.
Additionally, the human rights defender representing the victims, Vasily Seregin, noted that the defense has concerns that the underage passenger of the BMW, who has also been informed of suspicion, might leave the territory of Ukraine.
Details of the Fatal Accident in Dnipro
On December 1, in Dnipro, a BMW collided with a Ford vehicle, resulting in the death of a 10-year-old girl. Four other individuals who were with the deceased in the Ford vehicle sustained injuries. These included the driver and three passengers, among whom were young children. They have been hospitalized.
Investigators have issued a notice of suspicion to the 19-year-old BMW driver for violating traffic safety rules, leading to the death of a person.
A passenger of the BMW has also been suspected of failing to assist a person in a life-threatening condition.
According to media reports, a 17-year-old boy may have been driving the BMW at the time of the accident, who had previously been involved in another accident. Specifically, in the summer, he struck two girls at a pedestrian crossing. At that time, the case was classified only as an administrative violation.
