In Transcarpathia, border guards discovered 8 men from various regions of Ukraine attempting to illegally cross the border in a van equipped with a double wall. This information was provided by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
It was noted that a 63-year-old resident of Transcarpathia was transporting the men in a "Mercedes Sprinter." The van was stopped at one of the checkpoints by the border guards of the "Vylok" department of the Mukachevo squad, where the driver claimed he was only carrying vegetables.
"During the inspection of the minibus, the border patrol noticed that the vehicle was fitted with an additional wall. It turned out that behind the wall were eight men: one from Kherson, one from Zhytomyr, and two each from Kyiv, Transcarpathia, and Lviv," the report states.
All eight men were planning to travel to Hungary.
It was reported that the driver and the men attempting to leave the country were detained and taken to the border unit.
"The actions of the Ukrainian are indicative of a crime under Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, 'Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine.' Currently, investigators from the unit are clarifying all the details of the organization behind the 'journey' of the Ukrainians," the State Border Guard Service concluded.
Illegal Border Crossing
In Romania, the body of a man who attempted to escape from Ukraine was found. He froze to death, and his body was discovered by Romanian rescuers. The deceased had a passport on him, revealing that he was a Ukrainian citizen born in 1995.
Previously, in Transcarpathia, law enforcement uncovered a creative scheme for draft evaders to escape abroad – they attempted to jump onto a train heading out of the country while it was in motion. The "operation" took place at night near the border with Hungary.
It is known that the organizers of the scheme were detained and sent to a temporary detention facility in the Transcarpathian region. Some of them resisted arrest.
