The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has placed MP Yevhen Shevchenko in custody, who is suspected of treason. According to hromadske, Shevchenko has been remanded without the possibility of bail until January 11.
Thus, the court granted the prosecutor's request, which insisted on detaining Shevchenko without bail.
Additionally, the prosecution argued that the MP's statements constituted subversive activities in favor of Russia. The suspect's publications on Telegram and YouTube were taken into account.
The Case of MP Yevhen Shevchenko
As reported by UNIAN, Shevchenko previously called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a Telegram post to "start a dialogue" with Russia. He also offered his assistance and stated that he was willing to travel to Minsk for this purpose, as he has good relations with the local authorities.
On November 14, it became known that the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Bureau of Investigation, and the Office of the Prosecutor General gathered evidence of treason by the sitting MP.
According to the case materials, the individual systematically engaged in information subversive activities in the interests of the aggressor state. Based on the evidence collected, the MP has been notified of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason).
