Responding to a question about providing security guarantees for Ukraine, which has faced full-scale Russian aggression, Trump stated: "Russia has been saying for many years that NATO cannot interfere in Ukraine. This has been like carved in stone. And [U.S. President Joe] Biden said: no, they should be allowed to join NATO. Then Russia would have someone right at their doorstep. I can understand their feelings about this."
According to Trump, after this, he realized that such statements from Biden would lead to war.
The politician pointed out that "there has always been an understanding" that Ukraine cannot join NATO.
"In fact, I believe they had an agreement. And then Biden broke it. They had an agreement that would have satisfied Ukraine and everyone else. But Biden said: 'No, you need to be able to join NATO,'" Trump noted.
