On the slopes of the Borzhava valley in Transcarpathia, tourists spotted a man cutting down fir trees with a chainsaw. He turned out to be a citizen of Poland. This was reported by traveler Irina Lisovets on social media, sharing photos and videos of the incident that took place on November 3.
"A Polish citizen with a chainsaw is walking the slopes of Borzhava and destroying all the fir trees he can reach," she wrote.
According to Lisovets, during the video recording, the foreigner aggressively attempted to take her phone from her, but other tourists who approached the scene intervened.
"We reported this incident to the police, and they listened to us," the woman added.
In the video footage, the man speaks in Polish and claims to be a tour guide. The name of the Polish travel agency Bieszczader.pl, which organizes trips in Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, and Ukraine, including to Borzhava, is displayed on the hood of the car he arrived in.
The foreigner stated that he was cutting down trees because they were allegedly not in a protected area.
The publication Zaxid.net notes that Mount Himba in the Borzhava valley is a popular location for paragliders. Therefore, the Pole might have been cutting down the fir trees to avoid obstructing the takeoff trajectory during paragliding jumps.
The communication department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Transcarpathian region confirmed to UNIAN that they received a report regarding this incident.
"We received the report on November 3 and registered it immediately; an investigation is underway. Police officers are determining the whereabouts of the alleged offender," the police stated.
In the capital of Poland, over a million zlotys were stolen from Ukrainians - details
In downtown Warsaw, a group of men deceived their way into an apartment where three Ukrainian women were staying and stole a significant amount of money from them.
According to regional prosecutor representative Piotr Skiba, the attackers stole a large sum of money from a real estate sale, amounting to 130,000 dollars, 120,000 euros, and 100,000 zlotys.
The criminals posed as police officers and presented a fake search warrant. The women did not suffer serious injuries, although force was used against them: the attackers sprayed them with gas, handcuffed them, and locked them in a room while searching another area for money.
Law enforcement is searching for the attackers.
