The article notes that in 2022, Sofia expelled diplomats, and in October 2023, it closed the Russian consulate in Varna (officially due to the expiration of the lease on the premises). However, just 400 meters from the former Russian diplomatic mission is the headquarters of the "pro-Kremlin" BSP.
At this address (Macedonia Street, 33), it is allegedly possible to obtain consular services from Russia, according to the authors of the investigation.
These services are promoted on social media by Russian-speaking groups, and Marina Nachesu is mentioned in the investigation as the "contact person" for the consulate to access these services.
At the same time, Bulgarian authorities state that they are "unaware of any diplomatic actions" in Varna, the journalists emphasized.
They reminded that in June 2022, the Bulgarian government ordered 70 Russian diplomatic staff to leave the country, claiming that they were acting against Sofia's interests.
