The head of EU diplomacy has dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump's statement that Ukraine "can forget about NATO".
According to Kallas, NATO countries have never attacked the aggressor state, Russia, which "is afraid of democracy."
The Estonian politician, who previously served as the country's prime minister, stated that Estonia joined the Alliance because it "is afraid of Russia," and that "the only security guarantee that works is the NATO umbrella."
The aggressor state, Russia, claimed that Ukraine's potential NATO membership was allegedly the reason for its full-scale invasion three years ago. Trump, who broke international isolation of the illegitimate Russian president Vladimir Putin with a phone call in early February, stated that Ukraine can "forget" about NATO membership, which he believes is the reason the war began.
Kallas noted that this is "absolutely not true." She pointed out that "this is a Russian narrative," which Western politicians "should not fall for."
"My question is, why should we give Russia what they want, in addition to what they have already done – attacked Ukraine, annexed territory, occupied territory, and now they are offering something on top of that," the Estonian politician concluded.
