The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has initiated an investigation after discovering numerous disabled leaders within the prosecutor's office.

В прокуратуре выявили множество руководителей с инвалидностью, Офис генпрокурора Украины инициировал проверку.

The details of the investigation will be made public by the Office of the Prosecutor General at the beginning of next week, said the spokesperson.

The actions of the state agency are connected to the corruption scandal that erupted last week regarding "fake" pensions for prosecutors, the publication notes. Journalists have uncovered that around fifty prosecutors in the Khmelnytskyi region, including the regional prosecutor, may have obtained disability status without legal grounds.

Journalists, along with several leaders of anti-corruption public organizations, have reasons to believe that Khmelnytskyi is not the only region where such abuses may occur, reports "BBC Ukraine." On Saturday, the "Center for Counteracting Corruption" published a message on Facebook stating that, according to the preliminary investigation by the public organization, another 25 prosecutors in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions are receiving pensions. Their average age is 45 years, suggesting that these pensions are not based on years of service but likely stem from fake disability claims, according to the CPC.

Journalists from the publication "Censor.NET" also analyzed the declarations of other employees from regional prosecutor's offices in various regions of Ukraine and compiled a ranking of the officials with the highest pensions. According to this list, some deputy heads of regional prosecutor's offices received pensions exceeding one million hryvnias in 2023. Their average age is around 40 years. "Censor.NET" specifically mentions 42-year-old Ekaterina Shevtsova, the head of the Cherkasy regional prosecutor's office, who received over 785,000 UAH in pension last year.
