Since the beginning of 2024, 765 cars have been stolen in Ukraine, marking the lowest figure since the onset of the large-scale war, according to Opendatabot.
"In comparison, during the same period last year, nearly twice as many such crimes were recorded - 1,200 car thefts. The peak activity of car thieves occurred at the start of the full-scale war - 11,700 cases. Over the past three years, a total of 15,274 stolen cars have been reported," the statement reads.
It is noted that the highest number of car thefts this year has been consistently recorded in the Donetsk and Kherson regions - 256 and 166 cases, respectively. In total, this accounts for half - 55% of the total number of stolen cars in 2024. The Volyn region ranks third this year with 104 thefts - 13.6% of the total.
Traditionally, passenger cars are the most stolen vehicles - 516 units or 67.5% in 2024. This is followed by trucks and motorcycles, with 98 and 42 cases, respectively.
This year, the most popular cars among thieves have been Nissan vehicles - 61 thefts (8%). VAZ and Volkswagen also remain in the top three - 57 (7.5%) and 53 (6.9%) cars.
Among the models, the Mitsubishi L200 has suffered the most at the hands of criminals with 17 cases. Another 15 cars were stolen from the Nissan Navara model, while only 14 criminals targeted the Volkswagen Transporter.

In the first nine months of 2024, Ukrainians purchased 50.1 thousand imported used passenger cars under 5 years old, which is 60% more than last year.
This year, nearly 33.5 thousand used passenger cars from the USA were registered in Ukraine. Among the most popular used cars manufactured in the USA were: Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model Y, Ford Escape, Jeep Cherokee, and Volkswagen Passat.
