A major accident near Lviv resulted in the deaths of seven people (photos available).

Near Lviv, on the Lviv-Ternopil highway, a fatal traffic accident occurred involving a DAF truck, a Mercedes Sprinter minibus, and a BMW car.

As a result of the accident, seven passengers of the minibus lost their lives, and three other injured participants were hospitalized. Currently, part of the highway is closed.

According to reports from the patrol police, the accident took place early Sunday morning at the 105th kilometer of the M-09 Ternopil-Lviv-Rava-Ruska road near the village of Chyzhykiv.

"Unfortunately, there are injured and deceased. One lane is closed for traffic - a reverse traffic regulation has been established. Patrol officers are assisting with the aftermath of the accident along with other services," the statement said.

Drivers are advised to take this information into account when planning their routes.

The police in Lviv region clarified that details about the deceased are being verified. They specified that three individuals were injured - the 45-year-old driver of the truck, the 39-year-old driver of the minibus, and his 23-year-old female passenger. They have been hospitalized in Lviv medical facilities, and their diagnoses are being confirmed.

In connection with the accident, investigators have initiated a criminal case under part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code ("violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles by persons managing vehicles"). The penalties for this article include imprisonment for a term of three to eight years along with a three-year ban on driving vehicles.
