"It is clear that we need this. But it is also clear that [peace negotiations] will happen; that is not yet the case. However, in the future, it is a must. We must do everything possible to bring a fair and sustainable peace to Ukraine. The most important thing is sustainability. Because we can rejoice for a week or two, a month, maybe three years, maybe five [...] We do not want a return to war," the president stated.
According to Zelensky, there has been progress in the peace settlement process over the past few months, and it continues.
In particular, the Ukrainian team and Trump's team have started to work together, the president added.
"Where have we made progress? We have advanced in terms of, if we look at where we were a few months ago, I think we have started to work much more with Trump's team. We had meetings, we had a G7 meeting at the level of foreign ministers [...] Following that, there were meetings between the head of the Office of the President [Andrei Yermak] and [Trump's special envoy on Ukraine and Russia, Keith] Kellogg. Furthermore, as you know, Vice President [of the USA JD Vance]. So the teams have started to collaborate. There is a checkpoint; it is important that we are making some progress," Zelensky informed.
