A journalist asked what the former ambassador thinks about potential security alliances like Poland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom as an "alternative to U.S. assistance."
"I believe there is potential: there is quite significant potential. And such a triangle – Ukraine, Poland, the United Kingdom or Ukraine, Poland, and the Northern European countries – absolutely has the right to exist, including in the field of security and military matters. It seems to me that Poland lacks a bit of ambition in this regard. I think they are somewhat short on leadership," Deshchitsa replied.
He noted that Poland is currently in the midst of a presidential election campaign.
"They are more focused on who will win the presidential elections. But I see a very good opportunity for Poland to become a leader in Eastern Europe, as they have always desired, especially if they, along with other countries, take the lead in a military mission in Ukraine. I believe we have the understanding and the experience. And I already say: if the Polish leadership is ambitious enough, they will take this on. I would like to see that," Deshchitsa said.
He believes that such actions by Poland would be supported by other countries, particularly the United States.
