The EU is preparing its 16th sanctions package against Russia to coincide with the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, reports Welt.

Европейский Союз разрабатывает 16-й пакет санкций против России к первой годовщине полномасштабного вторжения в Украину, сообщает Welt.

This sanctions package against the Russian Federation will be the 16th adopted by the EU and is intended to serve as a "clear signal" to the Kremlin.

According to anonymous sources, it will include "measures targeting specific sectors of the Russian economy that have not yet been addressed or have been insufficiently covered," as well as actions against particular "propagandists of the Russian regime" – individuals and organizations responsible for "undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine."

Additionally, the EU Commission and the European External Action Service (EEAS) plan to impose entry bans and freeze the assets of individuals who have spied for Russia and participated in disinformation campaigns, particularly in Germany, as stated in the report.

At the same time, it is noted that it will be challenging to track those involved in "Russian hybrid attacks" and prove their guilt. Therefore, it has not yet been decided whether sanctions against spies and disinformants working for Russia will be included in the sanctions package by February 24.
