On the night of November 10, the police in Prague conducted a raid at the Orion nightclub in response to numerous complaints from local residents. This establishment is particularly popular among Ukrainians.
According to the Czech publication Novinky, during the operation, the police blocked the entrance to the club and inspected incoming vehicles. Inside the club, around thirty law enforcement officers checked the documents of the visitors.
As stated by the spokesperson for the Czech police, Eva Kropachova, the operation involved personnel from local departments, foreign police, special units for riot control, and criminal investigators. By morning, more than 100 individuals had been checked, the majority of whom were Ukrainian citizens.
The police detained two foreigners who were without identification documents for further verification of their identities with the Foreign Police Service. Additionally, two 17-year-old girls, found to be intoxicated, were handed over to their parents, and the incident was reported to child protection services.
The Orion club, which operates only on Fridays and Saturdays, attracted the attention of Czech media last month due to complaints from local residents about the behavior of its patrons. Residents reported incidents of broken glass bottles, public urination, and other disturbances, which led to regular police patrols in the area.
Ukrainians in the Czech Republic - Latest News
As reported by UNIAN, the results of a new survey indicate that the majority of Czech citizens oppose the arrival of new refugees from Ukraine. However, overall public support for Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic remains at the same level as in March 2024.
It was also reported that the tax and insurance revenues generated by Ukrainian refugees already exceed the budgetary expenditures on them. Specifically, in the first half of 2024, Prague managed to collect millions of euros.
