The police in Chernihiv region are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death by drowning of a man and a child. According to the communication department of the Chernihiv police, a report was received at the district office stating that an elderly man and a child had drowned in a river in one of the villages of the Kyselyvka community.
The deceased were local residents: a 66-year-old man and his 7-year-old grandson. Witnesses reported that the boy suddenly ran out onto the ice and fell into the water. The grandfather attempted to save his grandson. Unfortunately, both lost their lives.
Investigators are conducting a criminal investigation under part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional homicide) with the note "accident."
Death by Drowning
In the summer, rescuers reported that over one weekend alone, 66 people drowned in Ukrainian water bodies, ten of whom were minors. An additional 11 individuals were saved.
According to data from mid-July, more than 670 people have drowned in water bodies since the beginning of the year.
