Tusk announced plans to end asylum rights for migrants.

Туск объявил о планах отменить право на убежище для мигрантов.

According to Tusk, the migration strategy he is set to present at the government meeting on October 15 will include, among other things, a temporary territorial suspension of the right to asylum. He aims to seek recognition of Warsaw's decision within the European Union.

Tusk did not specify how this strategy, named "Restore Control, Ensure Security," would work, but mentioned that the asylum system in Poland is being exploited by the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, and the illegitimate president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, as well as "smugglers and human traffickers." "The right to asylum is being used contrary to its essence," stated the Polish Prime Minister.

The head of Tusk's office clarified in a comment to Bloomberg that the temporary suspension of the right to asylum would only apply to attempts at illegal border crossings from Belarus. The agency adds that it will not affect Ukrainians fleeing the war who are traveling to Poland.

Tusk has already faced criticism for this initiative. In particular, the human rights organization Amnesty Polska reminded that this concerns human rights. "An unjustified suspension of this right, even temporarily, is unacceptable and contradicts, among other things, the Geneva Convention and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," stated Amnesty Polska.

In response to the criticism, Tusk noted that Finland temporarily suspended the consideration of asylum applications in May.

"This is a response to the hybrid war declared against the entire EU (particularly, first and foremost, Poland) by the regimes in Moscow and Minsk, which involves organizing mass movements of people across our borders," he wrote. The Prime Minister of Poland emphasized that Russia and Belarus are using this right as a tool in the war, and there is "nothing related to human rights" in this.

Temporary suspension of asylum applications was introduced in May in Finland. This is a response to the usual hybrid war declared against the EU (especially Poland) by the regimes in Moscow and Minsk, involving the organization of mass transfers of people across our borders. The right to…
